Having just published our memorial blog to last year’s congreso in Yucatán, we are now extremely happy to announce our plans for the 2014 congreso in Ocosingo, Chiapas.
MAM colleague Martín Gomez, Maya Tzeltal from Abasolo, Chiapas, is our co-coordinator.
Martín secured a commitment from the president of the Municipio de Ocosingo to provide meals and lodging for 80 participants for five days!
The president of the local university will host us at his campus. MAM will provide all transportation costs for participants and workshop teachers.
Any university with a blow-gunner sculpture in the main square has to be appropriate for a congress of Maya epigraphers.
Whoever designed this campus dedication stela will have to be invited to give a presentation at the meetings.
And of course a visit to nearby Tonina will be on the program.
The 2014 congreso is called II Congreso Internacional de Epigrafistas Mayas, to be held May 26-30, 2014. Thank you all for your support that makes this possible, and to our Maya colleagues who will be teaching many of the classes and workshops. The goal of MAM, Mayas teaching Mayas the glyphs and calendar, is a reality.
